Homeopathy

There is a long discussion on the effectiveness of homeopathy on Wikipedia.  In summary, the medical and scientific communities do not believe it to be effective, and on the surface it is hard to see how dilutions containing less than a molecule of the source substance could have any beneficial healing effect.

When subjected to scientific trials, the homeopathic remedies are no more effective than a placebo.  What exactly the placebo effect is, and why it works in some cases, is an entirely different discussion.

The good news is that homeopathic remedies do seem to work for certain people in situations where traditional medicine isn’t so effective, such as for allergic reactions, body aches and other minor ailments that medical doctors can’t be bothered with.  Always see a doctor if you have broken bones or obvious symptoms of a serious disease.  Homeopathic remedies are worth checking out for an alternate viewpoint.  The best way of staying healthy is through a strong immune system, and you are likely to get better advice on how to achieve that from a Naturopath or Homeopath than from a normal medical doctor.  It is a lot cheaper, and there are far fewer side-effects than from many drugs.
